Sanctuary Gardens in West Kelowna is hands down one of our fav wedding venues in Kelowna, the Okanagan & honestly ANYWHERE. When Rich & Lauren reached out & told us about their vision of an intimate wedding ceremony at Sanctuary Gardens followed with some dreamy photos on the lake, we couldn't wait.
As it happened, their wedding day fell in the middle of one of the worst forest fire weeks of the summer, and the entire Okanagan Valley was FILLED with smoke. The crazy part is that although their photos look like a cloudy day, it was actually not clouds at all, but 100% smoke.
One thing you find when you photograph weddings is that every single wedding has SOMETHING unexpected. The key we've found is to lean into the unexpected - After all, it's these things that make life interesting, and often create an experience on your day that is 100% unique!
We leaned into the smoke & headed down to the water after the ceremony, and because the smoke was so deep, it almost felt like the beach we were on was on the edge of a vast ocean. At any other time, the feel & vibe of the photos would have been completely different - And I have yet to see this beach ever look this way again!
Things happen. We can't control the weather. We can't control the circumstances. But we can always control how we respond and whether we choose to make the best of it!
Rich & Lauren were absolutely amazing in their positivity and embracing the day, and we had an amazing time photographing their Sanctuary Gardens Wedding Ceremony - Even if our clothes smelled like we'd been camping for a week when we got home ;)
